    Our Commitment to Accessibility

    Accessibility Standard

    The guidelines have three levels of accessibility: A, AA, and AAA. We have chosen Level AA as our target because it addresses the most significant barriers for users with disabilities while remaining achievable and maintainable.

    • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard (Tab, Enter, Space, Arrow keys).
    • Skip to content: A "Skip to main content" link is available for keyboard users.
    • Focus indicators: Visible focus states on all interactive elements.
    • Logical tab order: Content follows a logical reading and navigation order.

    Visual Design

    • Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
    • Resizable text: Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
    • No flashing content: We avoid content that flashes more than three times per second.

    Content & Structure

    • Semantic HTML: Proper use of headings (H1-H6), landmarks, lists, and other semantic elements.
    • Alt text: Descriptive alternative text for all meaningful images.
    • Form labels: All form inputs have associated labels and clear error messages.
    • Link purpose: Link text clearly indicates the destination or action.

    Assistive Technology Support

    • Screen reader compatibility: Content is structured and labelled for screen reader users.
    • ARIA attributes: Where appropriate, ARIA labels and roles enhance accessibility.
    • Responsive design: The website works across devices and screen sizes.

    Known Limitations

    While we strive for full accessibility, we are aware of the following limitations:

    • Third-party content: Some embedded content from third parties (videos, maps, widgets) may not meet accessibility standards. We work with accessible providers where possible.
    • PDF documents: Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate these or provide accessible alternatives.
    • Dynamic content: Some interactive elements may require additional keyboard navigation support. We are continually improving these.
